How to know which size bike for your child


Age of children is paramount in choosing a child's bicycle. But the age factor should not be taken into consideration in the selection of standard bicycles. Child's posture as the length of the child's feet should also be considered, because the growth of every child is different.

Bicycle parts which can be used as a benchmark bicycle selection is the size of a bicycle rim.

Below is a table size of a bicycle rim is associated with the child's age.

  1. Rim size 12 inches (30cm) for children ages 2 to 4 years.
  2. Rim size 16 inches (40cm) for children ages 4 to 7 years.
  3. Rim size 18 inches (45 cm) for children ages 5 to 8 years.
  4. Rim size 20 inches (50 cm) for children age 8 through 12 years
  5. Rim size 24 inches (60 cm) and 26 inches (65 cm) for age over 12 years.
Rim size is obtained by measuring the diameter of the tire rim that has been installed.Example: The measurement results and the tire rim diameter of 30 cm showed a rim size is 12 inches.

Can also be seen on the side of the tire. Example: 16 x 1.75, number 16 shows that the size of the rim is 16 inches (40 cm). Numbers 1.75 shows the tire tread width is 1.75inches (4.45cm).
